The best Gluten Free options on LI

I keep trying to find more and more places to eat out, shop, and buy GF products at. Here are some old ones, as well as a few new on the list... most notably Jani's in Oceanside, and new to me, The Diet Shop in Ronkokoma, for shopping as well as Carrabas in Smithtown!
If you have any others let me know and I will post!

GF Resturants:
MAMAS in Oakdale (631) 567-0909 (there are 2 Mamas in Oakdale, this is the number to the gluten-free one!), CAFE BALDO in Wantagh, Carrabas in Smithtown (and I believe Lindenhurst? or somewhere else on the Island), Outback, Chilis... PF Changs in Westbury. I have also had luck at Grand Luxe Cafe in the Roosevelt Field Mall (I got an omlet and salad, but the wait staff was extremely helpful). I also heard that Chipotle Grill has gluten-free menu (but have never tired it), there is one just opposite the Nassau Coliseum (by Hofstra), and one by the Broadway Mall on Rt. 107. I also *risk* panara's salad in a pinch. Pizzeria Uno also has a gluten-free menu, I have gone to the one in Lynbrook, and have been OK. Also, Charlie Browns in Lynbrook, Commack, Mineola has a gluten-free menu. I have eaten at Laguna Grill in Westbury and Locust Valley, and was able to get a steak salad (no seasoning), and they were very accommodating.
I have also heard good things (I think even a gluten-free menu) about Long River Chinese in West Islip on Union Blvd, Oystermen’s in Sayville on Foster Ave, and Grecian Café on Broadway in Greenlawn.

GF Shopping:
BWell Naturally in Plainview has a LOT of GF stuff, as well as Fairway (down the block), and Get Healthy America all on Manetto Hill Road. Newly opened is Jani's in Oceanside, and let me say, there was SO much stuff!! I got some things that I never even saw before (they were imported), and FABULOUS GF products. I also like The Diet Shop in Ronkonkoma, they have a lot of GF stuff. Wild By Nature in Huntington, and is newly opening in Oceanside/Lynbrook.

GF Bakeries:
Sweet Karma in East Meadow has some GF items available by order, and even some when you walk in. (Joan's GF Great Bakes has her bagels there! YUM). And The Best Ever Low Carb Cakes in Massapequa, has GF cakes by order.

Gluten Free Long Island Welcome!

July 22, 2007 And so it begins....

I was toying with this idea for the past year or so, of creating a website dedicated to being Gluten-Free on Long Island, NY and then finally decided to start with a blog, so here I am!

I was diagnosed with Celiac Disease in the summer of 2005. Ever since then I have been on my search for the best Gluten-Free foods, places to eat, shop, recipes, everything having to do with a Gluten-Free Diet (Free from Wheat, Rye, Barley and most Oats). I will begin by compiling a list of places where I shop, eat, find deals, and order foods from. When I was first diagnosed it was scary, and most of my "searches" turned up restaurants in NYC, which was great as I am a frequent visitor to NYC, but I would like to help out others on LI to help with some of the "investigation" of GF products!

If you have any great finds that you would like to pass along, please feel free to do so!

I will try to be accurate and up-to-date, but I too feel I must offer a disclaimer: None of the information I will be posting should be treated as medical advice. Also, GFLI cannot take responsibility for errors or misinformation that might appear here. I encourage all readers to confirm information to their own satisfaction. I am not responsible for any information found on links I have posted. This site is intended to help simplify any "Google" searching you would do on your own and listing it on one place as well as "successes" that I have found out there. Obviously everyone is different, so please use your own judgment.

And as always, please confirm all information with restaurant managers prior to eating at any of the listed establishments.
